Summer Morning Successes Lead to Winter Evening PerformancesWeb Exclusive By Laura DiGiulio Due the success of Gallery 202, Partners in Art, Inc.'s summer program, "Breakfast with the Arts," this winter will welcome monthly "Evening with the Arts" events, which will run from November until April 2007. "Evening with the Arts," a performance event series that will showcase writers, poets, playwrights, storytellers and other performing artists, will occur the first Wednesday of each month, from 79 p.m. at Gallery 202. Refreshments will be served at the events and will be free to the public. "We will have a little bit of time for people to see the gallery, talk with each other, then do the performance and eat," says Renee Kropat, owner of Gallery 202, Partners in Art, Inc. The first "Evening with the Arts" event of the winter series will kick off Nov. 1 and will feature Kevin Lottes, a local author and playwright. Copies of Lottes' book, First Person Last, will be available to purchase and be signed by the author for a special price of $10 the night of his performance. Five of the six performance spots have already been filled, but if you are interested in performing at an event, contact owner Renee Kropat at 614-890-8202 or Renee@gallery202online.com. The Dec. 6 event will feature Alan Woods, who will be staging readings of short plays. Jan. 3, 2007 will include Wade K. Meyer, a poet, motivational speaker and comic. The Feb. 7 evening will feature a creativity workshop with Tom Baillieul a man who hopes to bring out the creativity in anyone. March 7 will welcome Jonathan Wright of Antioch College, who will be discussing storytelling as a performance art. "One of the important aspects I would like to get across is that the arts shouldn't feel unreachable," Kropat says. "If these small but fun performances can either take away the mystique, or better yet, offer someone the opportunity to fulfill a dream or to encourage the dream, then we have succeeded." Gallery 202 is also seeking sponsors for each Wednesday event in order to cover performance costs. All donations are tax deductible. Sponsorships begin at $125 per event, or $600 for all six events. The gallery is also seeking donations for coffee and refreshments. Donations can be made by calling Renee Kropat, or by mailing to P.O. Box 1545 Westerville, Ohio 43086, whereby you will receive a tax donation letter. Sponsors will receive perks such as top billing for each performance and in related press releases.
