Share your art.

That's what Gallery 202, Partners in Art Inc. is asking Westerville residents to do this month and throughout May.

The gallery wants people to decorate a postcard, available at the gallery at 38 N. State St. or online at www.shareyourart.org, then return it to the gallery, along with a $5 entry fee, by May 31.

Gallery 202 will stamp the postcard with a unique registration number, photograph it and put the image online.

Each piece of art will be placed in a clear bag with information about the Share Your Art program. On a specific day at the end of June or in July -- Gallery 202 owner Renee Kropat won't say when exactly -- the postcards will be distributed to places throughout the Westerville area.

The artists -- and others interested -- can find updates on where the artwork might be by logging on to the Web site.

On Share Your Art Day, residents are asked to search the area for the postcards, then log onto the Web site and fill out a "postcard finder's form" with the postcard registration number, date, time and place they found it.

They are also asked to tell what they plan to do with the postcard: if they'll "send it on, keep it or leave it in a new spot," according to an entry form.

While Share Your Art Day is "not an uncommon thing for a lot of organizations," Kropat said, the idea really evolved from last year's "Voices of Our Community," in which anyone entering Gallery 202 was asked to draw on a tag to be hung in the gallery. The gallery hoped to get back 500 decorated tags; it got 700, Kropat said.

Kropat hopes to release 500 decorated postcards into the area for Share Your Art Day.

"It's a way of giving free art into the community so (it's) a nice little added surprise for people," she said.

Another intent of the project: "to encourage anybody to partake in trying to create a little piece of art for the community," she said.
