January - February: Landon Bailey

Landon Bailey

Gallery 202, Partners in Art, Inc is excited to present a new artist on the Westerville Scene. Landon Bailey is an 8 year old Westerville Student and will have his first art exhibition at Gallery 202 beginning January 23rd-Februray 25th. A special artist reception will be held on February 20th at 2pm for family, friends and the public. Come meet this very talented young artist. In Landon's own words:

My name is Landon Bailey and I am an 8 year old, second grader at Wilder Elementary School in Westerville.  I love photography, monster trucks and  Nascar.

I became a shutter bug last year after I entered a picture in our school PTA Reflections contest.  I place 2nd at the school level, then moved on and placed 1st in the district and finally placed 3rd at the state level.  This year, I entered the Reflections contest again and I just found out that I won 1st place at the school level.

My favorite photos to take are nature photos, especially of leaves and snakes.  I love to get up early with my Mom and go all over Westerville. I take pictures all day long.  I try to take pictures that other photographers walk right past. I take my camera with me everywhere I go just incase I run into the perfect shot.

"Artists with disabilities to hold their first show in The Uptown Gallery 202, Westerville. “The ADDvantage of Art”

Artists reception: Sept 25th, 7pm Show dates: Sept 25th-Oct. 23rd WESTERVILLE

You are invited to a collaborative effort between Gallery 202, a nonprofit arts organization located in Westerville, and the ADDvantage Center, a Grandview-based nonprofit that helps people with developmental disabilities achieve their life goals and purpose.

These two groups will put on a high-quality, professional arts show designed to display the thoughts, feelings, humanity and worldviews of people with developmental disabilities.

¦The ADDvantage of Art² will bear the souls of our participants through the mediums of canvas, photos, poetry, ceramics and jewelry. We plan to attract dozens of people from the general public on a fall night filled with art, music, food and drink.

Open to the general public to attend the reception and through out the month, the viewer will experience the creativity and artistic ability of people with developmental disabilities .

Over a dozen artists are exhibiting and have never received the chance before to display their work to the world in a normal, socially-valued setting. For so many people with disabilities today, the only option they get is to live in an artificial bubble most of their existence. They go to a school with other disabled people, get a "job" among the disabled and then retire at a disabled community center. For some of our participants, this will be their first time to break out of that model and become true artists at a real gallery.

The event is hosted by Gallery 202, Partners In Art, Inc., a non-profit art organization that specializes in community art programs for all ages and encourages the interaction between artists, patrons and businesses. A partial grant was received from the Franklin County Neighborhood Arts Program. ADDvantage Center received a $500 grant.

Mary Ann Titus- October 2008 - Out of the Depths: Perspectives on the Human Experience

An exhibit of fiber art by Westerville resident, MaryAnn Titus .  She has exhibited in several local galleries as well as in Cleveland.  Her work has been called “powerful,” “moody and emotionally evocative” by the Columbus Dispatch.

This exhibit featured a series of small collages based on a Rumi poem, “Jars of Springwater are Not Enough.” These pieces, composed of fabric and glossy paper torn from magazines, reveal the pain and the hope inherent in the human experience.

MaryAnn was joined in the exhibit by her 13 year-old grandson, Aaron Collet.  Quilting for a little over a year, Aaron’s current work is about deep space, the wonders of black holes and super novas.  His pieces added, literally, a further dimension to the exhibit.

Jim Atwood: September 2008 , 2009

This is Jim's second exhibt at the gallery. Showcasing many recent small works of birds and landscapes, Jim continues to produce exquisite techniquely crafted watercolors and oils.

Cheryl Kneisely August 2008, June 2009

A display of underwater photography by Cheryl using a film camera. Works are on display at the gallery in the gift shop. The colors, subject matter and beauty of the often unexplored world are beautifully displayed. Click her for more...

Passages: What's your next game plan....July 2008

Passages VI explored major changes in our life. Children leaving the nest is normal but doesn’t mean it is easy. This year’s theme was based off my youngest son going to college (now a junior – oh my!). Now what am I to do? Of course, I will continue to grow and live my life but the opportunities are now open and endless – which game plan will I take?

He Said She Said............An Investigation of the Human Form

This was an exhibit on how two different artists look at the same subject.

This exhibit looked at the human form from the viewpoint of two different artists: a man's view and a woman's view.   One artist explores the form in very colorful two dimensions and  the other takes the exploration into an unusual third dimension.
