Did you know the way to get across Alum Creek at Schrock used to be a pulley basket system to ferry individuals across?

That Main St. was impassable because it was a swamp so east west traffic went Park St. because that was the shallowest place on Alum Creek.

And there were tug of war contests with Otterbein students across Alum Creek near the old Main St. bridge !

Did you know that over 10,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily.

Did you know that the original truss bridge was constructed in 1894 on the stone abutments that are currently in use by the current bridge.  A two span bridge was constructed in 1969.

The existing stone abutments are to be used as a future trail connector to allow access to all four corners of the bridge underneath.

The new bridge will have 9’6” sidewalks on both sides and have a barrier separate traffic from the pedestrians.

Thre will be a shuttle bus service to transport Otterbein students as well as the public during hours to be determined at a later time.  There would be one drop/off pick up point on the west side of the bridge and on the east side of the bridge, more than likely in the middle of campus.
