Gallery for a Day, September 2004

We had a preliminary meeting with particpants of Sept 2003 Uptown Celebration of the arts event and many of us felt that we should do this again.

Here are some highlights and some requests: Please feel free to email me much more as we go along.

Sept 2004 will be title: Gallery for a Day,
1. Uptown Merchants will play host again to different artists. We had 27 stores and would like to increase that. We are trying to maintain the original idea to have artist in the stores to encourage people to come into the stores but also to have the local businesses pick up some of the local artists as their "own". This did occur for a few of the artists. This is a way to promote the local artists and to hopefully find more venues.

> 2. There will be a "signature" to this event - to be determined as we go along.

> 3. Music is a possibility but many would prefer to have small music groups or groups around the area.

> 4. A silent auction of artist work to be held ( weather permitting) with partial proceeds going to community art programs and the rest back to the artist.

> 5. Tentative schedule for event is Sept 18, 2004. There is an away OSU game but the OSU bye is Sept 25 and the Worthington already has their art event scheduled then - they are a strong draw..

> 6. We will meet in January to begin the total process for this event. Sponsorship at this time is through Gallery 202 Partners in Art and as many Uptown Businesses as we can get.

We will need at least the following chairpersons:
Logistics - if we have music, silent auction, etc. where do we want them.
Artists - Recruiting artists for this event and placing them in the stores
Press - Pressing out this for paid and free advertisement
Silent Auction - getting artists donation, setting it up etc.
Behind the Scenes - getting the permits, etc.

Since Gene Brunton and myself have work together and completed several Uptown events we are excellent at giving a great foundation and leave the imagination of how to do this up to you!.

Thank you all who attended the event and the wrap up meeting. Let me know your thoughts.
