Amy Staufenberg

From my earliest recollection, I knew I was to be an artist; but being from a very practical family, I was steered in other directions.

It wasn¹t until I was overcome with a serious personal crises that incapacitated me did I find creative outlets that helped me recover. Looking through beautiful magazine photos stimulated a creative spark, later turning into an intense flame when I started creating decoupage items. I took classes at Columbus College of Art and Design then later at the Lancaster Art Guild where I discovered my decoupage was very similar to collage. It was a natural progression; my ambition and artistic calling had finally become my reality.

I had very little control over my outside situation, but with my art I had control over all the fragments and could arrange things as I wanted. Here my internal emotions could find their way into physical expression. Here I could show others where I was and how I could externalize what I held so close inside for so many years.

My art is now the story of my inner life and my lifesaver on a very real level.
