Brush off Stroke for the American Heart Association

Brush off Stroke - Fundraising Exhibit

Local artists team up to brush off stroke

(Columbus, OH November 4, 2005) Local artists are teaming up with stroke survivors and advocates to raise funds and help fight the nationšs No. 3 killer stroke. Gallery 202, Partners in Art, Inc., of Westerville will host a free exhibit and reception to benefit the American Stroke Association. Local artwork will be on exhibit at Gallery 202, Partners in Art, Inc., Nov. 9 through 12. The reception featuring a silent auction and the "People's Choice Awards" will wrap up the exhibit on Sunday, Nov. 13.

Stroke advocate and art lover Anne VanBuskirk is coordinating the exhibit. "I thought an art exhibit would be a wonderful way to combine both art and stroke education," said VanBuskirk. "An art exhibit would allow artists of all ages to exhibit their work to a new audience, it would allow the stroke community to experience art in many different forms and would let the general public both enjoy art and learn about stroke, its warning signs and risk factors. On top of that it would raise funds for the American Stroke Association for stroke education, advocacy and research."

VanBuskirk became involved with the American Stroke Association in 2001 as a tribute to her father Charles. VanBuskirk is a dedicated Train to End Stroke (TTES) participant and volunteer. TTES is a fundraising program that trains participants to run a marathon. Participants are provided with coaches, mentors, nutritionists and physicians throughout the five-month training period. At the conclusion of the training period, participants travel to their choice of Hawaii, Disneyworld or Arizona to run their marathon. VanBuskirk is excited to host her first art exhibit benefiting TTES. Donations will be accepted and all funds raised are dedicated to stroke education advocacy and research.
