Planned Merger this Fall

Gallery 202, Partners in Art, Inc. and The Westerville Art Center (WAC) are excited to announce a planned merger to take place this fall, 2006. The Westerville Arts Center will be closing its door at its’ current location at 250 North State Street at the end of July.

“Westerville is an arts friendly community and losing a valuable resource like The Westerville Art Center would be a terrible loss.” explained Renee Kropat, Executive Director of Gallery 202, Partners in Art, Inc. “For the past several years, we have been working with The Westerville Art Center to help provide needed activities and programs for our youth. What I enjoy the most about this center is its emphasis on helping even our youngest artists to explore their creativity first and techniques second. It has always been a fun place to visit and share in the excitement of the young artists as they create art”

Cindy Allison, director of the Westerville Art Center, explains that due to a change in building ownership, the overhead expense would be too high to continue at this location and still provide the quality services/programs that she has in the past. “ I regret that we are unable to maintain this location at this time but am looking forward to continuing programs at the Gallery 202 co-op space in the fall”, she stated.

“So although the initial merging may have resulted from a unforeseen closure, we will now be able to provide more benefits to artists of all ages, expand our current programs, continue to provide the community with a variety of arts and as part of the Partners in Art, Inc. concept, form collaborations with other organizations.” stated Cindy.

“It‘s not unusual in times of economic needs for arts and other non-profit organizations to join forces to help each other out. By combining programs and space, the overhead expenses will become far more manageable on a day to day basis resulting in more time to develop programs and simply to enjoy our jobs!” The WAC will maintain it’s name and own phone number but gain the benefit of sharing ideas, program possibilities and collaboration with working artists in a gallery setting.

The Co-op space has offered adult classes in the past, will now add children small group/individual classes to its programs. As part of the original Westerville Computer & Art Center, we are planning on offering computer classes as well for students and adults.” added Renee. “ It will be a win-win situation for all of us.”

Over the past several months, Gallery 202 Co-op has continued to emphasize it’s “Partners in Art,” segment of its name by adding musical performances during “Breakfast With the Arts, developing a website to promote our Creative Cultural Community – www.artswesterville.com and now joining forces with Westerville Art Center to continue with and help promote arts education for our youth.
